About This Grant

The Rising TIDES (Training Innovative and Diverse Environmental Scientists) Program seeks to address water pollution issues in Yonkers through youth education and engagement and research into sources of fecal bacteria pollution. We will cultivate young scientists from within our community through intensive training (Winter Water Academy), paid lab and field research experience (Blue Team Internship), and peer mentorship (Blue Team Mentorship). In tandem, working with Sarah Lawrence faculty, we will conduct source-tracking research utilizing qPCR to better understand what animal species are contributing to the high levels of fecal indicator bacteria we consistently find in the Saw Mill River.
