Baker Packing Company and Murakami Produce announced their formation of a new combined effort on February 23, 2017 and refer to the combined operation as an “onion supershed” in the Treasure Valley of Idaho-eastern Oregon. Grading and packing equipment will be installed and construction of a new 20,000-square-foot finished product/shipping structure has begun at the site as part of this merger/expansion. The addition will bring the new company’s total packing and shipping area to a total of 68,000 square feet.

It will create a multi-generational, multi-ethnic community orchestra open to the public without charge. This will strengthen the Ballard community by bringing together people of different ages and cultures who share an interest in learning and growing through music. The orchestra will offer rehearsals, instructional workshops and performances without charge.

The Low Income Housing Institute would like to create an event series to take place every other month in the community activity space at Cheryl Chow Court located at 2014 NW 57th Street in Ballard. The event series will feature people and topics relating to the Ballard neighborhood, be free and open to the public, bringing a wide range of community members together to create fun and educational events that highlight the people and history of the neighborhood.
Ballard Historic Resources Survey and GIS Mapping

Conduct a volunteer driven Historic Inventory that updates previous documents from 1937 and 1997 into a digital format for use as a cultural resource of the Ballard community and City of Seattle. The updates will utilize a visual and interactive GIS mapping component to engage volunteers and the public. It will be accessible to the public through the Ballard Historic Society web site.

The realignment, gives us the opportunity to increase our garden’s ADA accessibility by installing a system of wide and hard-scaped paths. Other site improvements include adding an additional water spigot to the NW corner of the garden, moving ecology blocks to terrace the southwest corner and an underground conduit to provide power to the centrally located patio.

The Ballard Public Art Committee will incorporate more public art on the streets of Ballard through the Utility Box Beautification Project. Located between 17th Avenue NW and 24th Avenue NW, there are six Seattle Department of Transportation utility boxes on NW Market Street that the committee will cover with vinyl wrap art. This project will be completed by August 31, 2019.
